Evidence-Based Treatments for Children and Adolescents and Evidence-Based Play Therapy
Lee So-Yeon

Abstract
Evidence-based treatments(EBT) specify the ingredients of the treatment and have been supported by scientific research. EBT can be adapted in the context of evidence-based practice(EBP) which is the synthesis of empirical evidence, clinical expertise, and patient values in the implementation of treatments. EBT is important in the practice of child and adolescent therapy in order to ensure the quality of the treatments. The importance of EBT is related to certain ethical concerns, meeting society s expectations about the scientific support for the effectiveness of the treatment, and reducing the disparity between mental health needs and services. Nevertheless, many therapists and researchers in Korea are not aware of the clear definition and components of EBT and the importance of utilizing EBT in their practice and studies. The purpose of this study is to promote a better understanding of EBT and to facilitate future research and EBT treatments. The definition and components of EBP and EBT options for specific disorders were introduced. Also, the effectiveness of play therapy in the context of EBT and common criticisms of EBT and subsequent changes were discussed. Finally, the future directions of EBT studies and treatments in Korea were suggested.
